Through your letter box you maybe receiving yet more bags to fill, bearing advertisements for the work of Charities.

Before you feel tempted to aid the charities mentioned, read the small print. You may find that you will be donating your goods not to the Charity, but to a trading company which only donates a small proportion of its sales to the Charity concerned. A not-for-profit organisation is not necessarily a Charity.

Also the Charity itself may be dubious in its aims and claims. If in doubt, check it out.

You could also put up a sign saying 'No Charity Bags' to deter collectors. This in time will reduce the number of bags being delivered which in itself can be an environmental hazard.

Lets support our local Charity shops both with donations and purchasing from them.

... Keep Addiscombe High Street busy!

We have been alerted to a recent incident whereby a man in a Hi-Viz jacket has been knocking on peoples doors to say he is working down the road and would be making some noise. He said the householder had some missing roof tiles and offered to repair them on the spot for £80.00.

Fortunately the householder was not taken in, but someone else could have been.

Be Aware:

A Hi-Viz jacket can be bought anywhere and does not automatically mean someone is genuine.

The local council elections are set for the 3rd of May 2018. You will note that Ashburton ward no longer exists, so you will be electing two councillors for the new Addiscombe East Ward.

A Councillors's primary role is to represent their ward and the people who live in it.

They provide a bridge between the community and the Council. To be effective, they need to build strong relationships and encourage local people to make their views known.

As residents, we expect our local Councillors to respond to queries and investigate our concerns regarding relevant issues. They should also work with local organisations, interest groups and businesses in order to represent their views in Council meetings.
